Carlyle Area Trail Changes

We are asking if anyone in the Carlyle area is interested in running a trail from the east side of town north and east towards range road 2023 then west back towards the drive in movie theater crossing hwy 9 north of True Torq and meeting up with the 311F trail just North West of town. This would avoid having to drive through town and across main street and the busy crossings. We will need some volunteers to paint up the sticks and help maintain it. Please email or call Troy at 577-7771 if you would like to help out. Thank You

Kenosee Village received 6-8 inches of fresh snow. All trails are open but please ride with caution as some signs could have blown down in the big wind we had on the 22nd. SNOW DAY

Kenosee Village got 8 inches which has settled to 6. Once past Bennett trail the snow tapers off to about 3 inches. Arcola and north has about 2 inches. The most snow is Kenosee and east. The trails are still marked on all 311 trails, be careful coming out of Carlyle, Highways has plowed the ditch to clean out the culverts. Kipling area got 3-4 inches and the trails in that area are all open. For the diehard sledders, get out and enjoy it.

Trail Report March 17

Lots of melting happened this week. SPRING RIDING CONDITIONS EXIST. The trails are fairing OK considering. #311A from Carlyle to Stoughton is ridable, 311J Arcola North to park is ridable. 311C Kisbey to Park is Ridable. I was on all these trails today and they where covered with snow, no real bare spots. Stoughton north to Corning is ridable, but is the worst trail right now. With all the oil roads and flow lines I would avoid it. The ditches entering and exiting Carlyle and Stoughton are poor. 311B Kipling south and north to the Bullet is good as is 311A from the Bullet to Windthorst and to Corning. The snow is icy, but if you want to ride you still can till Sunday. Trails will begin being pulled this Sunday in some areas. Stay tuned for details. Contact the director in the area you want to ride or to get up to date trail information, see the club web site for a list of phone numbers.

Two men who set out for a trip across northern Manitoba by snowmobile three days ago and had not been heard from are safe, RCMP say.

The pair left a winter carnival in Brochet, Manitoba, Sunday night.

On Tuesday, RCMP said the men's whereabouts were unknown. The two had told people they were headed for either Wollaston Lake in Saskatchewan, or further north in Manitoba.

"After extensive searching by land and air throughout the day both snowmobilers have been located safely," RCMP said in a news release late Wednesday afternoon. There was no word in the release about where the men wound up.

The groomer is running today March 10th from the Corning Shelter on trail 311A to Stoughton. Friday it will run from Stoughton to Kisbey on trail 311A. With the lack of fresh snow recently and warm temperatures coming we might not be grooming much more as we will just turn the trails into ice. Stay tuned for more details about the grooming progress. The trails are in good condition presently and there are a few small finger drifts to wake you up. Enjoy the trails while they last.

This serves as a reminder why groomed trails are safer as long as they are properly marked. I am presuming this happened on a unmarked trail. Slow down if you are riding in a area you don't know.

TWO NEW SHELTERS

The club put out two new shelters for the 2010-11 season. Corning has a brand new shelter and it is now called "Norm's Palace". It has a new wood shed and a new cast iron stove, and its located at the same spot as the old one along trail 311D. The other new shelter is located about 13km west of Carlyle along 311A. Right now we have it stocked with wood, an axe and a cast iron wood stove. This new shelter is called "Beaver Lodge". We hope to have the solar panel and lights up by next Monday or sooner if someone volunteers to help out, call or text Troy Foster at 577-7771 if you would like to help out. We would like to thank Savanna Well Servicing for paying to have a picker load the Shelter and wood shed and move them to the new location. Also thank you to Harry Laurent and Arcola building supplies for giving us a great deal on the shelter and wood shed.

AREA HAZZARDS

We are in the process of marking all the gates with chevrons along the 400 km of trail we have. Many are done, but not all. On the 311B south of Kipling and 311A North of the Windthorst Shelter there are some large round bales very close to the trail please slow down in these areas. The ice on 311A west of Kisbey is now safe, we passed over it today and the groomer [11500 lbs] didn't break through this time. Trail 311F from the Stevenson trail/park boundary, south towards Carlyle was rerouted due to a oil drilling rig setting up. We created a new trail for 3.5 miles though the fields and through a pasture. We are no longer using the municipal road and had the oil company volunteer there time to remove the brush and rocks. Thank you to Derek Simpson for helping us out with this project and helping us make a safe trail for everyone who uses it to get to the park. The trail is in pretty good condition, but use caution till we get more snow on it.

please note: the Provincial park has gates at each entrance and along center road. One is at the west end, also at the Gillis lake road and the the entrance to Kenosee Lake east of the stevenson trail on the east end of center road, most are only about 6 inches wider than your snowmobile So please be aware and don't crash into one.
